Who are we?
We are a personal trainer and martial artist with over 17 years of experience, and a body worker with over 8 years of experience. Discover fitness and health when the body is approached from a whole and balanced stand point.
Peter Coontz
I’ve been a martial artist for 17 years and I’ve studied fitness and strength training for over two decades. Over the years I have taught and trained thousands of students and clients.
In 1998, I got certified as a personal fitness trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. During the certification course I was introduced to biomechanics – how the body is designed to move. I don’t know what it is about the study of physical movement, but it is one of my greatest passions! Naturally, over the past 11 years I have gone out of my way to learn as much as I can about biomechanics, through theory, practice and experimentation. I have learned a lot and amassed a huge amount of valuable information.
Have you ever wanted to do something in your life – write a book, start a band, climb a mountain… whatever – but you thought something like: “Me? I couldn’t do that! Who the heck am I? Sure, deep down inside I would love to, but I’m just not meant to do that.” I’d bet you have. It is my sincere hope and intention that this book may be a catalyst for you to dare to do what truly lights you up; to be the Real You.

I have been a nationally certified massage therapist for over 6 years. As a massage therapist, I have been studying the body consistently for the past 8 years. I find the human body the most fascinating and perfect machine in the world. What is the machine that we call our body made for? What is its purpose? Everything I have seen, experienced, and learned all says the same thing. It is one simple truth. Our bodies were made for one purpose: to move. That’s it! Now, I have had the opportunity to work on a wide variety of people, and bar-none, people who sit or stand for long periods of time have the worst problems with their bodies. On top of that, it seems to me that most people these days really think that the only way to be active is by going to the gym. Well, I get how that may not sound very appealing to most people. It certainly doesn’t to me. So how can things change?
There are two reasons that I wanted to co-write this book. First, I felt that maybe my knowledge and experience of the body might help people to understand themselves and their own bodies a little better. The second was a lot more personal. When we first thought of the idea of this book, if found myself in an interesting place. I was nowhere near the shape I was committed to being in. I am 5’7, my body fat at that time was probably somewhere between 35%-40%, and I was a size 16. It occurred to me that if someone as educated and experienced as I am with the body ended up here, how can the average person, who knows little to nothing about the body, possibly have a healthy and active life? I felt like I could really make a difference, so here I am. I hope you get everything you hoped for out of this, and all I can say is: I wish for you as magical of a journey as mine is proving to be. May this book help you along your way!
